How this flooring estimate works
Use this calculator to measure flooring room by room and turn the result into whole cartons. Separating included rooms, exclusions, allowance, and carton coverage makes it easier to check the purchase before you leave the store.
How the estimate works
Add included room area, subtract exclusions, apply the allowance, and divide by carton coverage. Round the result up to whole boxes.
Worked example
A 20 × 15 ft room is 300 sq ft. With a 10% allowance the target is 330 sq ft. At 22 sq ft per box, the purchase is 15 boxes.

Assumptions
- Each included room is treated as a rectangle.
- Exclusions are subtracted before the allowance is applied.

Limitations
The estimate does not create a plank layout or account for stairs, closets with different products, subfloor repairs, underlayment, transitions, or labor.

Where do I find carton coverage?
Use the square-foot coverage printed on the flooring package. Enter that value in Advanced settings for a whole-box result.

It adds a planning buffer, but the right amount depends on the room shape and installation pattern. A cut layout may call for a different choice.
