How this landscape rock estimate works

Decorative rock can vary widely in density and gradation. The tool focuses on volume first, then turns the supplier’s density into an estimate you can revise.

Formula

Net area × depth gives volume; volume in cubic yards × material density gives estimated tons.

Worked example

A 432 sq ft planting strip at 3 inches is 108 cu ft, or 4 yd³. Enter the product density to turn that volume into a more useful delivery estimate.

Before you buy

Bring a sample or product name to the supplier and ask for coverage by yard or ton. Confirm whether the quoted rock is washed, screened, and delivered loose.
