How this raised-bed soil estimate works
Raised beds are easiest to compare when each bed has its own depth. Measure the inside dimensions, set the intended fill level, and use the bag label for the final purchase conversion.
Worked example
An 8 × 4 ft bed at 12 inches is 32 cu ft. Add a second 6 × 3 ft bed at 10 inches, and the combined volume becomes the starting point for bag planning.
Before you buy
Use the bag volume printed on the soil product, since “yard” mixes and compressed bags can differ. Stage bags near the beds before opening them.
Assumptions
Defaults are starting points. Replace coverage, density, package yield, spacing, and allowance values with the product or plan you are actually using.
